San Ramon is a city in Contra Costa County, California. San Ramon has the city of Dublin and Pleasanton (Alameda County) to its south and Danville, Alamo and Walnut Creek to the north in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is about 37 miles from San Francisco and 27 miles from Oakland. Mt Diablo is at the cities northeast and can be seen from almost anywhere. San Ramon’s population is about 85,000.
San Ramon is mainly urban and residential with lots of new housing. Much of the area around the city is still undeveloped with grassland and oak trees. San Ramon is a blend of rolling hills and flatter valley. In the summer the grasses are golden (brown) and in the winter and spring the surrounding hills are a beautiful green.
San Ramon has a Mediterranean climate and is quite moderate. Summers are warm, sometimes hot, and dry. Winters are cool and wet. Danville, Dublin and Pleasanton see similar weather patterns. The marine layer (fog) can come in through the mouth of Crow Canyon but will often burn off by noon. You see this pattern throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
The racial makeup of San Ramon is 54% White, 36% Asian and 9% Hispanic. The balance are from other races. 30% are under 18 years of age, 5% are between 18 to 24 year old, 31% are 25 to 44 years old, 26% are 45 to 64 years old and 8% are over 65 years old. The median age is about 37 years old.
